CHiL Semiconductor, founded in January 2006, is a mixed-signal fabless semiconductor company focusing on delivering intelligent, high efficiency digital power products into the computing industry. As semiconductors move into smaller process geometry there is a proliferation of low voltage (< 1V), high current (> 50A) microprocessors, graphics processors and high performance ASICs. Consuming typically more than 100W, leading companies are now focused on techniques to minimize the wasted energy and delivering green, power efficient solutions to their customers. Processor chip architects are implementing more sophisticated ways to manage this growing power demand by turning on and off the parts of the processor circuitry, but this places additional burdens on the Power Management IC to optimize the system performance for efficiency while still meeting the stringent requirements of voltage regulation, current transients and cost effectiveness. CHiL's IP, as demonstrated in 2007 by their first product Voltage Regulator and MOSFET driver prototypes, have shown the industry that intelligent digital control techniques can be used to significantly improve efficiency, while at the same time, lowering the number of bulk capacitors required in the system to meet the voltage regulation requirements. The resulting benefits include significant system costs savings, reduction in board space and a significant increase in system reliability. Use of CHiL's techniques and products allows industry wide OEM and ODM customers to deliver cost effective systems that meet and exceed Energy Star, 80+ and other computing efficiency initiatives.
